IGOT-ULisboa recognised as a "Key Innovator" under the eMOTIONAL Cities project

The Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon (IGOT-ULisboa) has been identified by the European Commission as a Key Innovator under the eMOTIONAL Cities project – Mapping the cities through the senses of those who make them, funded by the Horizon 2020 programme and coordinated by Paulo Morgado, researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG).

This distinction stems from the analysis carried out by the Innovation Radar, a European Commission platform that highlights the most promising innovations developed within EU-funded projects.

The recognised innovation “Multi-environment wearable data acquisition unit” – a portable device for data collection across multiple environments – has now been included in the Innovation Radar platform, which currently features over 13,000 innovations funded by the European Commission. In addition to IGOT, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and NeuroGears Ltd were also recognised as key partners.

The eMOTIONAL Cities project (2021–2025) aimed to understand how natural and built urban environments influence cognitive and emotional processes, taking into account age, gender, and the specificities of vulnerable groups. It sought to map this neurobiological reactivity over time and space, contributing to a more inclusive urban design that promotes citizens’ health and well-being.
