Professor Mills will delve into the history of urban heat (UH) studies, explore the methods used and examine the implications of rising urban heat for populations. Afterwards, there will be concise contributions from PhD students on their current research in urban climatology.

Bio
Gerald Mills is a physical geographer at UCD - UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN (Ireland) and has worked for more than 35 years on the climates of cities. He is a co-author of the book Urban Climates, a modern synthesis of the field, and is interested in integrating the knowledge of diverse urban disciplines on the impact of urbanisation on the atmosphere (and vice versa). His work focuses on observing and modelling the response of near-surface climates to urban design and planning.
