The Doctorate Degree in Geography aims to train experts in the geographical field of research. Faculty stuff within the Department of Geography possesses recognised competencies at a national and international level to carry out such training.

Objectives

 

The Geography Doctoral Programme aims to train experts in the fields of research of which IGOT faculty members are recognised specialists in, at both national and international levels.
The study programme delves into knowledge pertinent to the area of expertise chosen by the candidate, setting out to develop capacities of utilisation of different methodologies and research techniques, encouraging the critical analysis of issues and promoting intellectual integrity and capacity. The candidates in the Geography Doctoral Programme will also acquire scientific and technical capabilities, integrating different areas of geographical knowledge: physical environment, society and economy.

Application conditions

Good standing Master’s degree; undergraduate degree and relevant curriculum

Normal course duration

3 years, the first year corresponds to the Advanced Training Course, followed by 2 years of tutorial orientation and thesis elaboration
